Professional Background of Hannu Bergholm

Hannu Bergholm is the founder and President of Berhan Ltd.

Mr. Bergholm holds an MSc (Econ). During his career, he has lived in Finland, Switzerland, Germany and France. He was born in 1949, is married and has three children.

Prior to Berhan, Mr. Bergholm worked for two successful international industrial companies: Kone Corporation, an engineering company, and Nokia Group, a telecommunications and electronics company.

His experience can be classified into four phases:

Kone 1972-87

  • Learned to be professional in the areas of business control and accounting
  • Worked the last four years as Corporate Controller of Kone Corporation

Nokia 1987-92

  • Corporate Controller and member of the Nokia Executive Board
  • Took full functional responsibility, implemented change and was deeply involved in executing major acquisition and divestment projects

Nokia 1992-96

  • President of Nokia Consumer Electronics (NCE)
  • Member of Nokia Executive Board
  • Took full business responsibility for NCE, a 1.300 million USD, 10.000-employee company at that stage in deep losses
  • Mr. Bergholm and his team restructured the company and turned it around back to profits

Mr. Bergholm left Nokia after leading the process of divesting most of NCE. He then went on to establish Berhan Ltd.

Berhan Ltd 1997 -

  • Founder and President
  • A Corporate Advisory company specialised in international mergers, acquisitions and divestments


Mr. Bergholm has also worked as investor and business angel for young start-ups, accumulating an even more diverse portfolio of experience.

- 1999-2001 Co-founder and Board Member of Wapit Ltd., a mobile technology company
- 2000-2002 Board member in Scandinavia Online AB, a listed Internet company in Stockholm
- 2001-2006 SouthWing S.L., a mobile technology company based in Barcelona
- 2003-2006 MaxRumpus Oy, a mobile software company in Helsinki
- 2002-2006 Via Restaurants Oy, a novelty restaurant company in Helsinki

In August 2001, Mr. Bergholm was invited to take over as interim President for Elcoteq, a 2.000 million USD, 10.000-employee company listed on the Helsinki Stock Exchange. His task was to lead and restructure the company, and assist shareholders in finding a permanent President. This invitation was a major indication of trust from one of Berhan’s key customers. The company made a positive turnaround during his 5-month term. Elcoteq continued to outperform the share market during 2002/2003.


Since January 2002, Mr. Bergholm has again managed Berhan Ltd full time.
He has also been selected in April 2009 as the Chairman of the Finland Hong Kong Trade Association.

Mr. Bergholm has had the opportunity to work for corporations in transition, and has successfully managed these companies by:

  • Rethinking and implementing new strategies
  • Preparing and executing acquisitions, integrating acquired entities into company activities
  • Preparing and executing divestments
  • Reorganising, restructuring and rebuilding companies and divisions
  • Renewing finance and control functions and management information systems

His experience comes from both general and financial management

but the real learning comes from executing change.
